Japan PM Abe visits Gandhi’s hermitage in western India
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on Wednesday (September 13) visited the Sabarmati Ashram – hermitage of India’s iconic freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi in western Ahmedabad city- shortly after the prime minister arrived from Tokyo with his wife for a two-day visit.
Ashram is one of the twelve residences of Gandhi from where he began the famous Dandi March or Salt March as part of the Civil Disobedience Movement.
The two leaders and Japan’s First Lady Akie Abe arrived at the hermitage in an open vehicle.
Modi took the visiting dignitaries on a tour of the hermitage, now a museum, as the trio posed for pictures.
