Miss World 2016: Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Del Valle crowned
Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Del Valle was crowned Miss World on Sunday (Dec 18) as the beauty queen beat out the competition to take first prize at the coveted beauty pageant.
Nineteen year-old Del Valle was clearly surprised with by her win, as television footage of the moment she was declared Miss World showed.
Crowned by Miss World 2015 Mireia Lalaguna of Spain, Del Valle called it an “honor and a great responsibility” to represent her Caribbean homeland. She becomes the second titleholder from the island after Wilnelia Merced won the title in 1975.
Del Valle, 19, is a brown-eyed brunette student who speaks Spanish, English and French, and hopes to get into the entertainment industry.
The first runner up of the pageant, which was held at National Harbor, near Washington D.C., was Yaritza Miguelina Reyes Ramirez, of the Dominican Republic.
In third place was Natasha Mannuela from Indonesia.
Contestants from more than 100 countries take part in the Miss World beauty pageant.
