Namal Kumara appears before CID
The Operations Director of the Anti-Corruption Movement Namal Kumara has once again appeared before the Criminal Investigations Department.
Namal Kumara appeared before the CID this morning to record a statement pertaining to investigations, over the recordings of phone conversations he made public between him and the Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Terrorist Investigation Division Nalaka de Silva.
Namal Kumara was questioned by the CID for 10 hours last week, over investigations into an alleged plot to assassinate the President and the Former Secretary of Defence.
The Operations Director was also scheduled to appear before the Department of the Government Analyst this morning.
The CID yesterday sought the approval of Court to produce Namal Kumara before the Government Analyst’s Department in order to obtain his voice recording pertaining to ongoing investigations.
Earlier the Criminal Investigations Department informed Court that an Indian national arrested at the residence of the Operations Director of the Anti-Corruption Movement Namal Kumara revealed he was aware of an assassination attempt of several VIPs.
The arrested Indian accordingly revealed of a plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa along with his family members.
The Colombo Fort Magistrates Court accordingly granted permission to detain the Indian for further questioning, sources said.
Meanwhile police say no automatic rifles belonging to the Terrorist Investigation Division were taken into custody over investigations pertaining to former Deputy Inspector General of Police Nalaka Silva.
Accordingly the Police Headquarters refuted all media reports that claimed the CID confiscated two firearms prior to investigations.
