M K Stalin elected DMK President
The General Council of the DMK convened at the Kalaignar Arangam in party headquarters Anna Arivalayam to elect its President, a poll necessitated by the demise of its only President since the creation of the post in the late 1960s — M Karunanidhi.
His son MK Stalin was announced as the President of the party. His long-time companion Durai Murugan will take the post of Treasurer.
General Secretary K Anbazhagan on Tuesday morning announced: “This General Council assumes historical significance. Stalin has proved his mettle in courting arrest and suffering a lot during the Emergency and his contributions as …. He is DMK’s President,” he read amid rousing calls hailing Stalin.
