DMK chief’s condition remains stable: MK Stalin
The condition of DMK chief M Karunanidhi remained stable on Monday even as a host of leaders, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Nationalist Congress Party founder Sharad Pawar visited Kauvery Hospital, where he is being treated, in Chennai. After a long night and day for the anxious DMK cadre gathered outside the Alwarpet hospital, party working president MK Stalin, before leaving the hospital in the evening, told reporters his father’s condition remained stable. “His condition is stable as stated in the medical bulletin issued by Kauvery Hospital yesterday. Doctors are giving him treatment. His condition is being closely monitored,” Stalin said.
On Sunday night, the hospital bulletin said the leader had suffered a ‘transient setback’. Party sources said Karunanidhi’s pulse rate had dropped drastically forcing close relatives to consider facing the worst. However, the pulse rate improved, surprising even his doctors, sources said.
On Monday, Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, visited the hospital. “Myself and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam visited him. His condition is stable,” he said. Senior ministers, including Sengottaiyan and CVe Shanmugam, accompanied the CM, who was led to the ICU by Stalin and his sibling Rajya Sabha MP MK Kanimozhi.
Former President Pranab Mukherjee called Stalin and enquired about Karunanidhi’s health. Pawar visited in the evening, later tweeting, “Visited the ailing former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in Chennai. Wished him a speedy recovery.” MDMK general secretary Vaiko, and VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan also visited.
