Shower for Second day in Chennai
Chennai may enjoy its tryst with thunderstorms for one or two more days during evening or night hours. For the second consecutive day on Wednesday, rain lashed several parts of the city.
The weather station in Nungambakkam recorded nearly 2 cm of rainfall till 8.30 p.m. Many places like Poonamallee and Ennore also received 2 cm of rainfall during the same period. Roads in southern suburbs such as Tambaram and Alandur were waterlogged after the showers that lasted more than two hours.
The weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam registered 34.2 degree Celsius and 35.1 degree Celsius respectively. A generally cloudy sky may keep the day temperature close to normal of 35 degree Celsius.
Officials of the Meteorological department said it is typical for such thunderstorm activity during July, particularly during evenings and nights. Officials cited convective activity to be the reason behind thundercloud development over the city. A thunderstorm cloud can bring in rain for a short span up to one or two hours.
There is only chance of isolated rainfall in one or two places across the State till the weekend, the officials added.
