Indianapolis church puts Holy Family in cage to protest immigration
Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis shared a powerful message on Tuesday (July 3) as it unveiled sculptures of the Holy Family inside a cage on its lawn.
The pictures and videos of the large Jesus, Mary and Joseph statues behind metal fences went viral online.
The Church aims to send a message protesting the Trump administration’s immigration policy that has been widely criticized for separating families and keeping people in large cages at immigration facilities.
“As people are coming to the United States, coming to make a better life for their family, coming out of fear for their lives, coming to have a future for their children, we have to remember that the Holy Family themselves fled into Egypt out of fear for Jesus’ life and that each family that’s being held in detention is the Holy Family,” the Church’s dean and rector Stephen Carlsen said in a webcam message sent to Reuters Media.
