Van Crash

Two Australian nationals — a woman and her daughter — were killed and another three people including two Australians were injured when a van crashed into a parked container truck in Sri Lanka on Wednesday (June 20) morning.

Police said the truck had been parked by the side of the road due to a technical fault and the van, which was travelling from Colombo towards the tourist hot spot of Galle, had crashed into the truck and toppled over.

The accident happened on the Southern Expressway.

Four Australians and the driver were admitted to Nagoda Hospital, but the 37-year-old mother and her four-year old daughter succumbed to their injuries.
