Government to Hand over the North, East Lands to the Previous Owners
Ruwan Wijewardene, the State Minister of Defence says the government has taken steps to hand over lands that have not been returned to its previous owners after the conflict in the North and the East.
Speaking in Parliament, State Minister Wijewardene attributed the delay to the difficulty in relocating the military camps.
The State Minister said the tri-forces had to find different plots and build infrastructure for the property and this caused the delay.
State Minister Ruwan Wijewardene said 83,000 acres have been released to the residents in the North and East thus far.
He noted the President, Prime Minister and the government will take necessary measures and return the remainingproperty to its previous owners and ensure lasting peace and reconciliation in the country.
