The Postal Trade Union to Start Indefinite Fast
The Postal Trade Union Collective says they will launch an indefinite fast today opposite the Central Mail Exchange.
Bandara, the Joint Postal Trade Union Convener said they have not received a satisfactory response to their demands from the government yet.
A round of talks will take place with trade union leaders of other state organisations this evening in order to garner their support, he further said.
Chinthaka Bandara added the government’s failure to respond to their demands during the day will result in severe trade union action.
The Convener claimed Minister of Posts and Postal Services AHM Haleem had vowed to address their demands yesterday but to no avail.
He added the members of the trade union will not call off the strike regardless of what disciplinary action might be taken against them.
Yesterday the Postmaster General Rohana Abeyratne announced that all leave of postal employees has been cancelled.
The Postmaster General said all postal employees who fail to report to work will be deemed as having vacated their posts.
The strike was launched by postal workers on the 4th of this month.
The Joint Postal Trade Union Collective Chinthaka Bandara claims postal employees are faced with severe injustice due to the lack of an effective recruitment process.
