Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein Commends the positive steps of Unity Government
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein has commended the positive steps taken by the good governance government to address alleged human rights violations in Sri Lanka.
The outgoing UN Human Rights Chief commended Sri Lanka and several other countries for accommodating UN officials and positive developments by countries with respect to access for the Special Procedures.
Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein during his opening statement at the 38th session of the Human Rights Council urged all countries to ratify human rights treaties to uphold the rights of the people.
UN Human Rights High Commissioner Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said, “My Office stands ready to support in efforts to implement commitments to ensure respect for people’s rights, and I urge countries which have not ratified human rights treaties to do so.”
The on-going 38th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland is scheduled to conclude on the 6th of July.
