Former cricketers promote street cricket in Mumbai
Veteran cricketers Zaheer Khan, Brett Lee, Jonty Rhodes and Herschelle Gibbs took part in a street cricket match to promote the sport in India’s western Mumbai city.
Australia’s Lee said the friendly match was a great initiative and such backyard matches brought out the true spirit of the game.
Gully cricket or street cricket is an informal version of cricket played by people where many aspects of the game are improvised. India is a cricket crazy nation and follows the sport like a religion and worships cricketers as gods.
India has won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 tournament and lifted the Champions Trophy one and World Cup twice.
