Shapovalov through to semis at Madrid Open
Canada’s Denis Shapovalov booked his place in the semi-finals of the Madrid Open with a hard fought victory over Britain‘s Kyle Edmund on Friday (May 11).
Teenager Shapovalov overpowered his 23 year-old opponent in a three setter on the clay, with the Canadian hitting a total of 29 winners in the match.
Shapovalov took the first set when he broke serve at 6-5 but the Brit fought back to take the second set in a tie-break.

World number 43 Shapovalov now moves into the semis to take on Alexander Zverev, who beat John Isner in staight sets 6-4, 7-5.
