UNP to Initiate 2nd Phase of Party Reforms
The Political Committee of the United National Party convened last evening under the leadership of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The meeting was held at the Parliamentary Complex.
Deputy Minister JC Alawathuwala said extensive discussions were held pertaining to the second phase of the party reforms and empowering UNP members.
The Deputy Minister stated future programmes of the United National Party were specifically discussed and a group of officials were appointed adding the appointment of remaining officials was also considered.
Deputy Minister Alawathuwala said the methodology as to how organizers will be arranged was discussed in detail, while as a government the manner in which public needs will be fulfilled within the next 18 months was also discussed.
He added in programmes such as the Samurdhi beneficiary fund the public has not been treated fairly for a long period of time.
The Deputy Minister said therefore the UNP will carry out a programme within the next few months to provide funds to a large number of people who have not received Samurdhi benefits.
Deputy Minister JC Alawathuwala said several members of the UNP politburo proposed recommendations in this regard.
