Joseph Michael Perera quits over Ravi’s appointment
Former Parliamentarian Joseph Michael Perera resigned from the United National Party (UNP) working committee in protest over the appointment of former Minister Ravi Karunanayake as the Assistant Leader of the party.
The working committee approved the nominations for the posts but Perera resigned saying he could not agree to Karunanayake being nominated as Assistant Leader.
The UNP had yesterday named Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam as the new General Secretary and Kabir Hashim as the new party Chairman.
The UNP also named Minister Navin Dissanayake as the new UNP National Organiser and Dr. Harsha de Silva as the new treasurer.
Meanwhile former Minister Ravi Karunanayake was picked to continue as the Assistant Leader of the UNP and Sajith Premadasa as the Deputy Leader.
The UNP working committee today approved the names.
