Sri Lanka government functions will continue: Eran Wickremeratne

The prorogation of the parliament until May 08, has no impact on the immediate workings of the government State Minister of Finance Eran Wickremeratne said.

“This has no impact on the functioning of the government,” Minister Wickremeratne said.

He further said that the cabinet will also continue.All pending business in parliament will lapse and parliament committees will also stand dissolved, he said.

It give the parliament an opportunity to renew itself,” he said.

President Maithripala Sirisena prorogued parliament after six cabinet ministers from this Sri Lanka Freedom Party resigned.  Sixteen ministers and deputy ministers who voted in favour of a no-confident motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesnghe was forced to resign amid pressure from his United National Party.

On the 19th when parliament sat after New Year holiday the group was due to crossover to the opposition. President is attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting on April 19 and 20.
Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has appointed a committee headed by Minister Sarath Amunugama is to look into actions of the coalition.
