President to Visit Japan Today
President Maithiripala Sirisena is expected to visit Jappan today. The state visit is scheduled for three days, the clesed sources said.
Meeting between the Head of state and the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is expected during the visit. He is also scheduled to meet with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko. During the visit, Japan is expected to reaffirm its commitment to bolstering bilateral ties with Sri Lanka.
The Japanese media reported, Prime Minister Abe will likely confirm closer collaboration in areas such as the economy and the importance of a free and open Indo-Pacific region during the meeting with President Sirisena.
President Maithripala Sirisena has also advocated a balanced diplomacy with Japan, China, India, Europe and the US, however several countries have raised concerns over growing Chinese influence in Sri Lanka.
