Germany’s bronze luge medallist Johannes Ludwig on Monday (February 12) compared the race to a “crime story” which had it all – action, great runs and track records.

A happy Ludwig also told a news conference his bronze medal was celebrated like he had never been celebrated before.

Austrian David Gleirscher claimed Austria’s first Olympic luge gold in 50 years after 2014 champion Felix Loch stumbled dramatically with his third successive title in sight.

Having been flawless all weekend, Loch crashed heavily into the wall midway through his run, knocking him completely off medal pace

Loch said it had not been a lapse in concentration, but a driving mistake.

Chris Mazdzer became the United States’ first man to claim an individual Olympic luge medal.
