President Says Democracy Established in Sri Lanka by the Current Government
President Maithripala Sirisena says the country has gained international recognition by changing a leadership which was detrimental to the country.
Speaking at a United People’s Freedom Alliance rally in Wellawaya the President said the international community has acknowledged the country’s progress following the leadership of the previous regime.
President Sirisena questioned if people were murdered or harassed, Newspaper Editors were killed or media organisations were burned down on the directives of the present government.
The President added in the past when people in Weliweriya spoke up demanding water, the Army was dispatched to shoot them down and when the Katunayake workers protested on the streets demanding rights they were shot and killed.
The President noted internationally known sports personalities were killed in the past adding Sri Lanka Freedom Party governments didn’t do such things
The Head of State stressed the present government had changed that state of affairs.
President Sirisena stated in this country today there are no disappearances, people aren’t murdered, and democracy has been established adding the world has now recognized Sri Lanka as an exemplary country.
The Head of State further charged certain corrupt factions who are attempting to divide the Sri Lanka Freedom Party have even stolen the party’s colour.
President Sirisena said the SLFP colours are being used in the new party they have formed claiming the colour is theirs.
The President remarked people who are no strangers to corruption, theft and wastage are widely known by the public.
The Head of Sate said he could talk till dawn regarding how the previous government didn’t work according to party policies.
President Maithripala Sirisena added during the Bandaranaike’s social, economical and political revolution, rights were given to the working class and labourers were not shot.
