PM Highlights the Achievements, Says Government has a Long Way to go
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the manner in which challenges and obstacles were successfully faced by the good governance government is satisfactory.
Issuing a special statement, the Premier however said the government has a long way to go to complete its journey.
The statement has also focused on several democratic-friendly events fulfilled by the present government.
The Prime Minister highlighted several achievements of the government including the establishment of the Constitutional Council and independent commissions, the passing of the Right to Information Act and the protection of victims of crime.
The Premier added freeing Sri Lanka Police, the judiciary and public services from political influence is also an achievement of the good governance government.
The special statement notes for the first time in history Sri Lanka Police has the power to investigate complex financial crimes and producing the perpetrators before courts.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe noted privileges limited to one family in the past are now enjoyed by the rightful owners – the public.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe believes the government has a long journey ahead in healing wounds in the name of justice caused by the corrupt culture which prevailed for over a decade.
Premier Wickremesinghe noted the government is committed to the promise made to journalists over bringing those who were prejudiced against journalists to justice.
The Premier also stressed the need of unity to face challenges in the future.
