UN Chief issues “red alert” for world in 2018
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres delivered his New Year’s speech on Sunday (December 31).
The UN chief said that despite his call for peace, 2017 has been a year where “in fundamental ways the world has gone in reverse.”
He said that for 2018, he is going to issue a “red alert” to the world.
“Conflicts have deepened and new dangers have emerged. Global anxieties about nuclear weapons are the highest since the Cold War, and Climate Change is moving faster than we are,” he said.
He urged world leaders to make new year’s resolutions and take steps that will lead to unity and peace.
