The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Friday accused the Election Commission officials of working hand in glove with the ruling AIADMK and helping it in every other way to win the by-election from the R.K. Nagar Assembly constituency where polling is due on December 21.

Arguing a case related to bogus voters in the constituency, before a Division Bench of Justices T.S. Sivagnanam and K. Ravichandrabaabu, senior counsel P. Wilson referred to “unfair means” followed by the Returning Officer to reject actor Vishal’s nomination to contest from the constituency.

“The Election Commission has become a selection commission. They are selecting the candidate and declaring him elected. I can show how nomination of one candidate (Mr. Vishal) has been unnecessarily rejected,” Mr. Wilson said. The arguments were advanced on a plea made by DMK to reopen its writ petition that been closed on November 21.

He pointed out that the party had approached the court alleging the existence of 44,999 bogus voters in RK Nagar constituency. However, the court had disposed of the case as infructuous after recording the submission of the commission that it had deleted as many as 45,819 names from the voters list after a thorough verification.
