Pope says his defence of Rohingya got through in Myanmar
Pope Francis on Saturday (December 2) urged world leaders to turn back from the brink of possible human annihilation, saying the policy of stockpiling ever more sophisticated nuclear weapons had become “irrational”.
The pope made his comments to reporters aboard the plane taking him back to Rome from a trip to Myanmar and Bangladesh, which was dominated by the crisis of Rohingya refugees.
Aboard the plane, he said the world was at the limit of being legitimate in regard of nuclear weapons and that we now risked the destruction of humanity.
The Pope also indicated that he had been firm with Myanmar military leaders in private meetings on the need to respect the rights of Royingya refugees.
