Jack Sock beats Fernando Verdasco for final semi-final place in Paris
Jack Sock of USA beat Spain’s Fernando Verdasco 6-7(3) 6-2 6-3 in Paris in the early hours of Saturday (November 4) to book the fourth place in the Paris Masters semi-finals.
Verdasco took the first long set with a tie-break but ran out of steam 6-2 in the second set.
Sock took the equalising set just under two hours from the start, then launched into the deciding set with newfound energy, sending booming serves and curving returns down the court at Verdasco.
The Spaniard looked to be going out but then rallied and saved four match points on his service game.
He could not withstand the pressure of Sock’s serve however and the match finished 6-3.
Sock, who gets little rest before his next match, now plays French hero and wildcard Julien Benneteau who eliminated Marin Cilic earlier in the evening.
John Isner of USA, who beat Juan Martin del Potro, goes on to play Filip Krajinovic who benefited from the withdrawal of Rafael Nadal at the beginning of the day.
