Bollywood’s Abhishek Bachchan interacts with budding footballers
Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan on Saturday (October 21) took part in a teaching campaign for children, organised by English Premier League’s Chelsea football club, in western Mumbai city.
Bachchan, who is co-owner of India’s Chennaiyin FC, said he has been a Chelsea supporter for more than two decades.
He said a coaching camp organised by current Premier League champions Chelsea would provide an excellent platform for budding Indian stars and help develop the sport in the country.
Once famously described as a “sleeping giant” of world football by former FIFA President Sepp Blatter, India last year launched the “Mission 11 Million” programme aimed at engaging that number of children in the game.
India is the world’s second-most populous nation but it is a major under-achiever as far as football is concerned and ranks 105 in the current FIFA rankings.
