We only think of winning, says Barcelona’s Ernesto Valverde
Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde said on Tuesday (October 17) that the three points at stake against Olympiakos are key for the Catalan side when the Greek side visits the Nou Camp on Wednesday (October 18) for the Champions League.
Valverde was seen as an unglamorous choice as Barcelona coach in place of Luis Enrique, yet in winning nine of his first 10 games he is turning out to be an inspired selection. His fine start at the club will come as no surprise. The Spanish coach, nicknamed “the ant”, won the Greek title in each of his three years at Olympiakos and lifted the domestic cup twice, giving the club a rare sense of stability.
Olympiakos head to Barcelona in the midst of a crisis, sitting fifth in the Greek standings, a league they have won for nine of the past 10 years.
Asked about Lionel Messi and the Ballon D’Or trophy, Valverde said they don’t need trophies or awards to know who the best player is.
