Sri Lanka barred from trading with North Korea
Sri Lankan citizens and firm have been banned from trading with North Korea. A special gazette notice has been issued.
The Gazette notice had issued by the Foreign Minister Tilak Marapana in the Parliament yesterday (Monday). Imposing sanctions on the Democratic People’s republic of North Korea (DPRK or North Korea) in keeping with United Nations Security Council Resolutions dealing with the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.
According to the gazette notice, Sri Lankan citizens and firms have been banned from doing business with North Korea.
North Koreans have been banned from buying property in Sri Lanka, and Sri Lankans also barred from obtaining financial services and technical assistance from North Korea.
Sri Lanka denied permission to North Korean firms to open new branches in Sri Lanka or create subsidiaries.
