Sasikala obtained parole for five days
V.K. Sasikala, the jailed interim general secretary of the AIADMK, obtained a five-day parole from the Parappana Agrahara Prison in Bengaluru on Friday.
According to sources in the prison, the parole was granted with a set of conditions, including one that states that she should not have any political interactions. Hundreds of her supporters gathered near the prison awaiting her release, some of them carrying bouquets.
Sasikala, who is serving a four-year jail term since mid-February, had sought parole for 15 days, as her husband, M. Natarajan, is critically ill in Chennai. Her application was first submitted along with a medical certificate stating that her husband was suffering from kidney and liver failure and that she would like to visit him.
The jail officials rejected the application late on October 2 evening, saying it was incomplete. A certificate from a local MLA or MLC or gazetted officer certifying that Mr. Natarajan was seriously ill was not enclosed with the application, they said.
