Nine Cases Filed; Court Orders Sarana Gunewardene to Appear
The Colombo Additional Magistrate has ordered Former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunewardene to appear before Court on the 26th of September.
The Former Deputy Minister is charged with providing vehicles of the Development Lotteries Board on lease among other charges.
The order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Aruni Artigala when nine cases filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against Former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunewardene was taken up for hearing.
The Prisons Superintendent was instructed to produce Sarana Gunewardene before Court on the 26th of September.
Cases have been filed against the Former Deputy Minister by the Bribery Commission for renting out vehicles of the Development Lotteries Board illegally between 2006 and 2007.
Sarana Gunewardene is currently in remand on the charge of misusing a luxury vehicle under the government during his tenure as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Lotteries Board.
