Northern Province Chief Minister and Tamil People’s Council (TPC) President C.V. Wigneswaran yesterday said, that President Maithripala Siriena’s statement, that he will not let anyone to conduct a probe against Government Forces on war crimes allegations, indirectly says that Forces have committed war crimes. A declaration was also released at the Veerasingam Hall in Jaffna yesterday, after the conclusion of the political discussion involving the public, political leaders and experts.

Citing General Sarath Fonseka’s statement that he has evidence against General Jagath Jayasuriya committing war crimes, he said “it only describes that the ‘criminals’ are identifying themselves and it’s time for foreign Judges to probe these matters, because when the President says he will protect them, we cannot expect a local mechanism with local Judges to grant justice.”

The vociferous Chief Minister noted that persons who committed crimes cannot escape, however the current Government has not taken concrete steps on that matter and all those protests and awareness programmes in the North and East had been futile.
