Cricket for a worthy cause

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officially launched the special T20 encounter to be played between Sri Lanka XI vs World XI on 8 September at R. Premadasa Stadium Colombo to raise funds for disaster affected children.

The match is organized by Sri Lanka Cricket’s (SLC) charity arm ‘Cricket Aid’ and proceeds will be utilized to support children who suffered from the recent natural disasters.

According to SLC CEO Ashley de Silva, both teams will feature present and past cricketers, though he did not mention any names who have been confirmed. Neither Mahela Jayawardene nor Kumar Sangakkara has replied positively to the cause as they have prior commitments, while Thilakarathne Dilshan and Sanath Jayasuriya is expected to play for Sri Lanka XI.

The match will start at 7 p.m. on 8 September and will be telecast live on TV.

According to the CEO the estimated cost of the operation will be around 35-40 million rupees and they are hopeful of making a profit.
