Sri Lanka Parliament adjourns due to joint opposition protest
Sri Lanka’s Speaker Karu Jayasuriya adjourned the Parliament this morning after the joint opposition protested inside the House over an issue of Samurdhi payment.
The Parliament session was suspended at around 11:30 am.
Joint opposition MP Dinesh Gunawardena questioned why the Samurdhi allowance was cut off but the Minister of Social Empowerment, Welfare SB Dissanayake was not available to respond.
Then the members of the Joined opposition wearing black arm bands and carrying posters staged a protest for about 15 minutes in the well of the parliament.
Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera also said as a United National Party member he too opposed the removal of the Samurdhi allowance and Minister Harin Fernando expressed disapproval.
