Those who attacked me were BJP, RSS workers: Rahul Gandhi on Gujarat incident
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi alleged on Saturday that the attack on him a day earlier in Gujarat was carried out by workers of the BJP and the RSS, agencies reported.
“In yesterday’s incident, BJP workers threw such a huge stone that my personal security officer was injured. This is how they and Modi conduct politics. It’s their own people who carried out the attack, so why would they condemn it,” said Rahul.
On Friday, the Congress vice president’s car was pelted with stones while he was on a visit to flood-affected Dhanera+ in Gujarat. A huge cement brick was also thrown at his vehicle as alleged BJP workers waved black flags at him+ . Rahul managed to escape unhurt.
Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said after the attack that several cars in Rahul’s convoy were damaged and their window panes were smashed. A special protection group man suffered a minor injury as well, Singhvi added.
Congress leaders continued to criticise the attack a day later.
“They are not interested in being in a democracy. They would prefer to have an opposition-free India,” said senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Saturday.
