Report on SL to be submitted to UNHRC on Monday

The Report of the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, Monica Pinto on her mission to Sri Lanka is scheduled to be tabled on Monday at the ongoing 35th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The Report, which would be tabled under the title “Agenda item – 3/ Promotion and protection of all human rights, Civil, Political, Economic, Social, and Cultural rights including the right to development was compiled by the rapporteur following her mission to Sri Lanka from April 29 to May 7 last year which she conducted jointly with the special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

In her report, Ms.Pinto said the administration of justice should be more transparent, decentralized and democratic.
