We are slowly rebuilding, but surely, we will come up – Angelo Mathews
Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews said on Wednesday (June 07) they are slowly rebuilding their team.
Sri Lanka finds themselves in a do-or-die situation after being thrashed by South Africa in their opening match.
Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews said that it was very hard to beat the Indian team unless they were on top of the game.
“We are slowly rebuilding, but surely, we will come up with a good performance. I mean we bowled and fielded really well in the South African game. It’s just that we didn’t click as a batting unit. It was unfortunate that, after the start that we’ve got, we lost our way in the middle and collapsed, you know, to 240. But yeah, it was very disappointing, but I thought the bowlers and the fielders kept us in the game. It’s just that the batting didn’t click,” said Mathews.
After this match, Sri Lanka will face Pakistan in their final group match on June 12 and India will play South Africa on June 11.
The tournament features Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa with three group matches each and only the top four teams advancing to the semi-finals.
