US President Trump meets with Italian President Sergio

U.S. President Donald Trump arrived at the Quirinale Palace in Rome on Wednesday (May 24) to meet with the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella.

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump met with Pope Francis and exchanged gifts and he is also due to meet Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni later in the day. He will see Gentiloni again on Friday (May 26) for a summit in Sicily of the Group of Seven (G7) richest nations.

Massive security precautions have been taken in Rome, with the areas around the presidential palace, Vatican City, the American ambassador’s residence and the U.S. embassy temporarily closed to traffic.
