Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi a while ago to discuss several issues, including the political situation in the state.

The meeting assumes importance as the BJP is trying to rope in the support of two AIADMK factions for the presidential poll due in July.

Mr Palaniswami’s Delhi visit comes a couple of days after Union Urban Development and Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu met him at the state Secretariat in Chennai.

The opposition parties are holding meetings in a bid to field a common candidate for the President’s post as the term of President Pranab Mukherjee is ending in July 2017.

Just a couple of days ago, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, leader of one of the AIADMK factions, had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.
