Ice Hockey World Champions Sweden returned to a hero’s welcome in Stockholm on Monday (May 22), less than 24 hours after their triumph in Germany.

Thousands of supporters turned out in central Stockholm to welcome the team home, with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven presenting the players to the enthusiastic crowd.

The underdogs stunned holders Canada in a penalty shootout on Sunday (May 21) after the teams were locked at 1-1 over 80 minutes. The Swedes kept their cool in the shootout with goaltender Henrik Lundqvist saving four shots to help them lift their first world title since 2013.
