Novak Djokovic says he is happy of his recent performance
World number two Novak Djokovic said that his level of performance now is better than it was two months ago as he looked ahead to this week’s Italian Open in Rome.
The Serb comes into the tournament after reaching the semi-finals of the Madrid Open last week, where he lost to eventual champion Rafael Nadal.
The former world number one has only won tournament victory this year, in Doha, Qatar in January, with his previous win in Canada in July 2016 just before the Rio Olympics.
He said on Monday (May 15) that being at the top for ten years was helping him reflect on what had gone wrong and that he was aiming to create a “new, better version” of himself.
Djokovic split with his coaching team earlier this month after having finished his coaching association with former player Boris Becker last December, and while he denied a new association with any other former tennis star was imminent, he did not rule out the possibility of hiring another one in the future.
