President assures to find solution for controversial construction of Buddhist temple at Mayakkalli

President Maithripala Sirisena assured Tamil and Muslim leaders that he would evaluate and find solution for the prevailing issue of moves to construct a Buddhist temple at Manickamadu Mayakkalli area in Ampara district which create communal tensions and lead to deteriorate reconciliation process.

The President assurance was given to Leader of the Opposition and the Tamil National Alliance R. Sampanthan and Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, Minister Rauff Hakeem brought the issue during a discussion at parliament on Friday (April 28) as it creates communal tension among the communities who live peacefully.

The leaders of the minority communities also stated the visit of BBS general secretary Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara thero to the area had boosted the tension.
