Canadian defence minister Harjit meets his Indian counterpart in New Delhi
Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan met his Indian counterpart Arun Jaitley in New Delhi on Tuesday (April 18) as he began his six-day visit.
Canada’s Indian-origin minister’s visit is aimed at boosting defence and security ties with New Delhi.
Sajjan is also scheduled to meet Indian foreign minister, Sushma Swaraj among other senior leader.
The visiting minister also paid tribute to Indian soldiers killed during World War-I, at the war memorial of India Gate in New Delhi. He laid a wreath at ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’ or flame of the immortal soldier.
During his stay, Sajjan will also travel to northern Amritsar and Chandigarh and western Mumbai cities.
Canada has over 1.2 million Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), comprising more than 3 percent of Canada’s population, according to official data.
