Agreement signed to establish new Tamil Reconciliation Channel

An agreement was signed between Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Chairman Ravi Jayawardene and National Integration and Reconciliation Secretary V. Sivajanasothy on a new Tamil language ‘Reconciliation Channel’.

The agreement was signed in presence of Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Mass Media and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka, Deputy Minister of Mass Media Karunarathna Paranawithana, Renewable Energy Minister Ranjth Siyambalapitya, Deputy Minister of Power Ajith Perera, and Minister of National Co-existence Dialogue and Official Languages Minister Mano Ganesan.

As an important initiative under the reconciliation week, declared by President Maithripala Sirisena, a special reconciliation TV channel under the SLRC is to be established soon.

Recently a special budget provision of Rs. 180 million was granted to the Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation to facilitate and undertake programs aimed at improving peace and harmony among the different ethnicity in Sri Lanka in consultation with Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC).
