A special Mechanism to the women who are affected by the war should be in place said Parliamentarian Sriyani Wijayawikrama.

She stated the above when she participated in the debate with regard to the matter of financial allocation for the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs held at parliament yesterday (29th November).

She said that there are many women who get offended when using the public transport and there should be a Law that would bring a halt to this situations.

“The recent research shows that there are approximately 15000 women who are engaged in prostitution. But according to the NGOs, there are 450,000 women working as prostitutes. The current Government has imposed Taxes and if this situation continues the above said amount would increase” she added.
