Twenty-eight thousand crores allocated for Defence (3rd Update)

The highest sum of 28 thousand 344 crore Rupees has been allocated in 2017 Appropriation bill for the next financial year.

16 thousand 340 crore Rupees has been allocated for Highways Ministry of Higher Education,16 thousand 94 crore Rupees and 7 thousand 694 crore rupees were allocated for Health sector and  Education respectively.

The total budget allocation amounts to 82 thousand 400 crores and it is said that this budgetary allocation is less than 75 thousand 500 crore rupees compared to last year’s budget allocation.

Minister Ravi Karunanayake submitted 2017 Appropriation Bill (2nd Update)

The Appropriation Bill outlining allocations for each ministry for Year 2017 has been presented by Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake today (20th October 2016).

The 2017 Appropriation Bill was submitted to the parliament at 10:30 a.m. today (20th October 2016) and the first reading was made by Minister Ravi Karunanayake.

2017 Appropriation Bill to be presented in Parliament today

The Appropriation Bill outlining allocations to be made for each ministry for Year 2017 will be presented to parliament this morning for its First Reading.

The Appropriation Bill which seeks passage of budgetary allocations through the parliament is presented before the budget speech by the Minister of Finance. Minister Karunanayake will deliver the budget speech on the 10th of November.

The debate on the second reading of the Budget will commence following the Minister’s speech and will continue for 14 days at which time the Second Reading Division will be taken.

The Committee Stage Debate will continue for 12 allotted days before the third and final Reading Division taken.
