Cabinet approval on counter-terrorism law
Cabinet ministers have approved to replace the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) by the counter-terrorism law.
The counter-terrorism law was approved by Cabinet ministers, when a cabinet meeting was held by President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (11th October 2016).
During the meeting, the Bill was submitted by Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and was seconded by Leader of the House, Minister Lakshman Kiriella.
Earlier, many personnel raised fears in Parliament, that the new counter-terrorism law will be worse than the PTA.
