Northern Provincial Council (NPC) Chairman, C.V.K. Sivagnanam said that Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Provincial Councillors will write to the IGP and other national security authorities requesting that Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran’s security be immediately beefed up.

The NPC Chairman said threats against Wigneswaran had increased significantly after the Ezhuga Thamil demonstration last month. Several public denunciations of the Northern Chief Minister have been made since that rally. “A number of people have spoken against Wigneswaran and these people can also make an attempt on his life” Sivagnanam said.

Wigneswaran is given the same security services afforded to all other chief ministers. He demanded that the government speedily address the needs of the Tamils in the North and East when he addressed the Ezhuga Thamil rally in Jaffna less than a fortnight ago.
