Security in and around the venue of a regional meeting in Laos remained tight on Thursday (Sep 8) as leaders of 18 nations were set to gather for the East Asia Summit.

Armed police guarded the entrance to National Convention Center in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, the rotating chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Leaders of the 10-nation regional bloc will meet their dialogue partners from the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Australia, India and New Zealand later in the day, before the three-day meeting comes to a close.
