Indian PM Modi meets ASEAN leaders
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a regional summit in Laos on Thursday (September 8), pledging closer ties with its allies in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Modi was in Laos’ capital Vientiane for the region’s largest annual political meeting that brings together leaders from 18 nations, including the United States, China and Japan.
ASEAN is India’s fourth largest trading partner with an average growth of over 20 percent every year. It is also a key player for India’s “Look East Policy”.
All 18 leaders will meet later in the day in the East Asia Summit.
The three-day meeting will officially close later on Thursday after Laos passes its rotating chairmanship to the Philippines.
