China masters core technology of mini-underwater auto-vehicle
China’s 50-kilogram class unmanned underwater auto-vehicle, which had all of its core technologies developed by Chinese researchers and recently, passed an acceptance test and was put into mass production.
In less than one month after passing the acceptance test, the vehicle, developed and made by the Northwestern Polytechnical University in cooperation with enterprises, has received many orders from at home and abroad. They will be produced in an assembly line near the university.
Now we have received over 40 orders and have signed contract for 20 more. Most of the orders come from universities and research institutions, with some from enterprises relating to marine science. The whole market capacity is expected to reach 1,000 during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), said Wu Zuofu, director of the marketing department of the Xi’an Tianhe Defense Technology Co Ltd.
The mass production of the vehicle will provide the necessary equipment for maritime exploration, development and defense, ending China’s reliance on foreign products and reducing the cost by a big margin.
The price of a similar product made by the United States is about 10 million yuan. But our product is priced at one one-tenth that of the United States, with the cheapest one at 100,000 yuan said Pan Guang, professor of the research institution of underwater vehicle at the Northwestern Polytechnical University.
