Indian Air Force AN-32 plane goes missing with 29 people

An AN-32 aircraft of the Indian Air Force with 29 people on board went missing today, defense ministry sources said. The aircraft was flying between Chennai and Port Blair. Those on board included six crew members.

The AN-32 aircraft took off at 08:30 hours from Tambaram in Chennai and the last contact with it was made 16 minutes later, defence sources said. The aircraft can fly for up to four hours without refuelling. A massive search operation has been launched by the IAF, Navy and the Coast Guard, sources said. The Navy, the Air Force and the Coast Guard have launched a massive search operation to locate the missing plane.  Russian made AN-32 is considered the most reliable machine in the IAF because of its ability to take off and land from small airstrips. The Indian Air Force has 100 AN-32s currently.
